Wow, that's some high praise. Especially coming from you. I thought the princess bride was one of those stupid crappy anne hathaway fairy tales, trying to be funny in the way shrek is but failing miserably and adding several buckets of cheese along the way, but I will have to give this a try.

I disagree, I think this was a great film. It was very entertaining, it had an original plot and the use of a single mans plight in this real life scenario really brings the point home. I see nothing wrong with Zwick making a point about the rough diamonds and it being up to consumers to stop it because it holds truth. The fact is as consumers it is important to pressure retailers to be sure they do not sell rough diamonds, as it will stop furthering the civil war effort in Africa. I think their were great performances from Leo and Djimon, I even thought Connely's performance was quite good. In summary a thumbs up for this film. And there's nothing wrong with making a point with a film as long as its valid.

I enjoyed this film quite a bit, however I felt it lacked a big thinking point, which is the sign of a great film. But it was a great murder mystery with a good twist, and so that can help it to stand out. I somewhat disagree with your opinion on Robin Williams acting. Yes it was sublime, but I think the character's normality comes through more in the writing, and William's acting simply augments this.

I agree the beginning was heavily drawn out, so much so that I began to have doubts as to whether Jaguar Paw was the main character they kept focussing on the guy with the problems with child rearing. The chase is exciting if a bit random in how it stops and starts. That Jaguar Paw managed to run for 2 days straight after having been shot by an arrow is a little unbelievable. But it was entertaining to a point and the actors all did exactly what was necessary along with some good direction from Mel which makes this film look quite good. And I totally agree on the costumes and make-up, very effective.
